How the grass seed estimate works

Seeding rate depends on the grass and whether you are starting a new lawn or overseeding. A new lawn is often about 5 pounds per 1000 square feet, or about 35 grams per square metre, while overseeding uses roughly half that. Always check the rate on your seed bag, since it varies by species.

Seeding a lawn? A broadcast spreader lays seed far more evenly than by hand and is calibrated to a rate.
